  • Q: Is your system portable?

A: Our SPECTO system is not portable in the traditional sense. It is a semi permanent system that requires foundations for all the intermediate poles and both foul poles.

Q: How long does it take to take down or set up the SPECTO outfield system?

A: The SPECTO outfield system takes three people approximately 75 minutes to set up or take down. This process can be sped up by using a gator or some utility vehicle that can pull the fence and pole cart behind it.

Q: Are there multiple color options?

A: Yes, the SPECTO outfield system comes in many color combination options. The main fence body should be a darker color, ideally black, forest green, or dark blue. The demarcation line and foul poles should be a lighter color, whether a school color or a sports-regulation color. We often see yellow, white, red, orange, or light blue used.

Q: How safe is your system?

A: Our system was tested by the University of Tennessee; the same department and team that tests the NFL fields used overseas every year for safety ratings. Our system was so safe that their testing method could not even register the rate of deceleration, which is directly related to chance of injury. We’ve had several hundred thousand usage hours on our SPECTO systems without a single reported injury.

Q: Does the SPECTO system meet NHS or NCAA standards?

A: Yes, the SPECTO system not only meets, but exceeds NHS and NCAA standards, as well as various ASTM standards. The system can be 7’ or 8’ H, does not require additional padding, and is a perfect way to set your field and facilities apart from others.

Q: Can the SPECTO system be a permanent outfield fence?

A: Yes, it absolutely can be. The poles are powder coated steel and will last many years. We recommended the mesh fence itself and other mesh components are taken down during the offseason to increase lifespan.

Q: How long with the SPECTO system last?

A: The powder coated intermediate and foul poles will last for many years. The mesh components could last anywhere from 5-15+ years depending on many conditions. A mesh system left up year round in hot, sunny climate may last 5-7 years, while a system in cooler climates taken down every off season will easily approach 15 years before fading. With proper maintenance and removal of the mesh components during the offseason, you can expect your system to last a decade or more.

Q: If one panel gets damaged, do I have to replace the whole system?

A: No, individual panels can be bought and replaced easily.

Q: How safe is the field of play when the SPECTO system isn’t in use?

A: Incredibly safe. Our sleeve inserts are intricately designed to maintain safety for all other athletes and sports that use the field. The sleeve insert has a 1.5” pad and is then covered with 2” pile height turf.

Q: Do the sleeve inserts stand out?

A: While the sleeve inserts may not match your natural or artificial grass, many times people spray paint a small dot on the sleeve insert’s turf to more easily find it. That’s how seamless they are!

Q: Do I need a fence transport cart?

A: Yes, a fence transport cart is a required element. This is how new systems are produced and transported to site. It is also very helpful for setup and storage of the system.

Q: Do I need a pole transport cart?

A: No, a pole transport cart is not a required element. While it is strongly recommended for systems that need to be taken down after each season, the poles could be stored and transported on an owner supplied cart to reduce purchase price.

Q: Can I use the SPECTO system at multiple settings?

A: Yes! The SPECTO system can comfortably accommodate two different settings. It requires two foundation layouts, one for each setting. We design the multi-setting system based on the deeper setting, then provide custom distance banner panels to suit the inner setting. A few panels will have to be removed to make the deeper setting fit the inner setting, adding about 15 minutes to the process.
